We grow Albarino at Jespersen Ranch, our cool climate vineyard nestled into a hillside near the Pacific Ocean. This white grape varietal is not often seen but we are proud to farm a few acres that produce an aromatically stunning and crisp wine. We picked this fruit in two passes about two weeks apart: the first pick gave us grapes ripe with green & grassy notes while the second pick had fruitness & more phenolic development.
The aromatics on this wine are a symphony of fresh fruit & mineral notes. Aromas of pear, white nectarine & crisp peach intermingle and are unified by a bright minerality & freshly cut green grass. The palate has a comfortable roundness up front and is swept away by a kiwi-laced acidity on the finish - the perfect summer sipper.

A touch of new oak and a touch of malolactic fermentation add complexity and depth in both aroma and flavor profiles. Lightly toasted French oak puncheons impart a touch of creamy texture to the palate opening, and they round of the acidity a tiny bit, letting all the glorious peach and citrus speak with a clear voice and finish crisply while getting soft vanilla added to the floral nose. There’s a ton of interest here, and I’m excited to see how this ages. Winemaker Patrick Muran is following the idea in RIas Baixas that this is a grape that is wildly versatile when handled with care.
