This wine pays homage to the original Super Tuscan Winemakers who scorned convention in the 1970s in order to create unique blends. These renegade winemakers found Italy’s strict blending laws to be a hindrance to great wine, and began creating unrestricted blends that would allow the best of the vintage to shine through. In that spirit, the 2015 Super Paso stars our two Italian varietals with just enough of a cowboy influence to keep it grounded in Paso Robles.
This blend was built from the grapes up, starting with two co-fermentations. One was our Sangiovese and Barbera: classic Italian cousins that do well together. We also experimented with a non-traditional pairing of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon during primary fermentation. The chemistry that takes place during fermentation results in a wine that is completely different than blending the same wines post-fermentation, and in this case produced a brilliantly juicy and remarkable wine. 231 cases produced.
