Juan Chaidez
Vineyard Foreman
Originally from Mexicali, Mexico, Juan Chaidez has been working
in the grape-growing industry for 20 years. For 15 of those years, he worked
for and learned from renowned viticulturist Jim Smoot in Paso Robles. Juan's
breadth of knowledge grew to encompass all aspects of vineyard management, from
planting to pruning to irrigation. Smoot eventually made Chaidez a foreman, and
together they planted 61 acres at Bootjack Ranch in 2001.
When Smoot became involved
with the Niner project, he recommended that Chaidez be brought along. They met
with Dick Niner, who invited Juan to be part of the team. Today Chaidez works
closely with Vineyard Manager Jerry Grant, overseeing both Bootjack Ranch and
Heart Hill.
