Late Summer 2007 NewsletterWelcome to the fifth issue of Niner News! Harvest has come early this year, so the team is already very busy in the vineyard and the winery. All of the Sauvignon blanc has been picked and is currently chilling in two separate tanks in the winery. The red varieties are maturing nicely in the vineyard and we expect to be fully picked by the first week of October.
Heart Hill and Bootjack Ranch UpdatesAfter years of planning, we have received the Conditional Use Permit for our winery and hospitality center, and our architect is now preparing construction documents. We anticipate ground breaking in the first quarter of 2008. A grand opening of our winery and tasting room is tentatively planned for early 2009. The first 20 acres of Heart Hill were planted this spring with small blocks of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Syrah and these baby vines are looking great. With new soil moisture sensing equipment at both vineyard sites, we have greatly improved the efficiency of our irrigation timing and are actually using less water than expected in this dry year. We continue to produce all the Niner wines from estate-grown fruit from our Bootjack Ranch on Highway 46 East. At Bootjack, there are currently 125 planted acres of Sauvignon blanc, Barbera, Sangiovese, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere.
