Celebration Weekend: Memorial Day

KICK-OFF THE SUMMER SEASON WITH NINER!

Looking for a reason to hit the beach, but want to skip the sand? Join Niner Wine Estates Memorial Day weekend for a beach-themed bash! Both Saturday and Sunday, The Mighty Croon Dogs will play summertime classics on our outdoor patio and Pier 46 Seafood will grill up their famous fish tacos ($8.50 for two tacos, chips and salsa) for guests to enjoy. Wine tasting, wines by the glass and other specials will be available throughout the weekend.

Barrel to Barrel Tasting at The Cliffs Resort

TASTE NINER IN PISMO BEACH!

Join Niner Wine Estates at the Cliffs Resort for the annual Barrel to Barrel Tasting, a benefit for Amp Surf, on Friday, May 31, 2013. With a few surfers on our Niner winemaking team, this event hits right at home. It will be a beautiful day in Pismo Beach, with fine wine and food, celebrating the beach lifestyle we Central Coast folks love. If you plan to attend this tasting, please be sure to stop by our booth to say hi to our assistant winemaker, Patrick Muran! Rumor has it, both he and our cellar lead, Patrick Martinez, will be participating in the long board surf contest the following day.

Cooking Class: Chef Matt Becket of Linn's

"CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY CUISINE"

Savor the deliciousness of locally-sourced ingredients, immerse yourself in the farm-to-table movement, and develop an understanding for seasonality in our Contemporary Country Cuisine cooking class with Chef Mat Beckett of Linn’s in Cambria. In this hands-on cooking class, you and your classmates will be frying, charbroiling, composing salads, baking and whipping up delicious sauces. You will begin the day creating a Crostini with Linn’s heirloom tomato and pesto chevre, followed by Italian sausage stuffed eggplant. You will work with Chef Mat to make a Chimichiri couscous and charbroiled shrimp salad with a balsamic syrup dressing, and will finish with a cherry and dark chocolate berry mascarpone tart. After the cooking is complete, you will sit in our private event lounge to enjoy the fruits of your labor in a family-style setting.

Fungicide, Herbicide Practices and Innovative Tools Seminar

Join us and the Independent Grape Growers of the Paso Robles Area (IGGPRA) for this educational seminar hosted at Niner Wine Estates on Monday, June 3. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Dale Evenson from Farm Supply Company about proper applications, rotation, selection and timing of fungicides in the vineyard. Linda LaVanne from Syngenta will discuss fungicides, insecticides and herbicides including GRAMOXONE®, its proper use and the possible lifting of restrictions in 2014. Lastly, Dan Bess from Infaco-USA will introduce new pruners, hedge trimmers (with an attachable saw head) and desuckering tools.

The seminar is FREE for IGGPRA members and $20 for non-members, coffee and donuts will be provided and 1.5 hours of continuing education credit has been requested. Fog Catcher Retrospective Tasting & Tour

We are proud to introduce the first of a new annual series, the Fog Catcher Retrospective Tasting & Tour. We will begin the day with a vineyard tour of our Heart Hill property, followed by a winery tour of our LEED-Silver certified production winery and end the day with special panel-format tasting and review of our Fog Catcher. We will begin the tasting with our inaugural 2006 vintage and progress through the years to the 2009 vintage, finishing with a preview of our not-yet-bottled 2011 Fog Catcher. This is your opportunity to sit one-on-one with Winemaker Amanda Cramer, Assistant Winemaker Patrick Muran and Vineyard Manager Jason Yeager to learn about what goes into growing the Bordeaux varieties that we blend to make our Fog Catcher, our winemaking approach and style, and what the future holds for Fog Catcher at Niner Wine Estates.

The day's highlights:

  • Tour of Heart Hill Vineyard with Vineyard Manager Jason Yeager
  • Vertical tasting of Fog Catcher, including unreleased vintages

Real Men Drink Pink Tasting at Star Farms

Join us, along with a dozen Paso Robles rosé producers for the ultimate summer wine tasting experience!  Proceeds will benefit breast cancer programs at the Cancer Support Community – California Central Coast and must! charities

Held at Star Farms, a virtual oasis complete with a half-acre blue lagoon pool, white sandy beaches and tropical palm trees, the afternoon begins with a Rosé Grand Tasting.  The PINK Party immediately follows, and includes swimming, lounging, an 80s beach dance party and a Secret (super hot) Headliner Band sure to blow your mind and rip your clothes off! The day is rounded out with regional culinary fabulousness presented by top Paso Robles chefs and the best food trucks around.

Saturday features live music from 1-4 pm by local musicians, The Mighty Croon Dogs, and Los Robles Cafe serving their famous Tacos Al Pastor ($10 for three tacos). Tacos are slow roasted on a vertical spit, served with fresh onions and cilantro, accompanied by a big slice of grilled onion and pineapple.

Sunday, a local roots, rock and reggae powerhouse band called Resination will play on the outdoor patio from 1-4 pm. And the wonderfully creative Chef Tom Fundaro will serve a variety of gourmet lunch items (prices vary) from his mobile gourmet food truck, named appropriately Fundaro's Foodstream.

 Wine tasting, wines by the glass and other specials will be available throughout the weekend.

Cooking Class: Bacon Basics with Chef Maegen Loring

In this hands-on cooking class, students will join San Luis Obispo Chef Maegen Loring for an unforgettable culinary journey where every recipe calls for a little bacon. Bacon is not just for breakfast anymore! Learn all about bacon... What is pork belly and how do you cook it? What is the difference between pancetta, smoked bacon an cured bacon? How do we user them? What makes one better than the other? From savory to sweet applications, learn all about everybody's favorite pork product. At the end of the class, students will sit down to enjoy an intimate, family-style meal where each course is paired perfectly with Niner Wine Estates wines.

Soak up the sun, musical tunes and gourmet foods all weekend long at Niner!

Saturday's agenda features the iconic tunes performed by raggae band, Nitely Irie, led by vocalist Vince Fahie from 1-4 pm, and Caribbean-inspired lunch items (prices TBD) by Chef Jeff Weisinger of Jeffrys Catering.

And on Sunday, Vince Fahie will be back, but this time with his Resination band mates to back up his vocals from 1-4 pm. Fundaro's Foodstream, a mobile gourmet food truck will arrive at Niner around lunch time to serve up delicious wine country cuisine (prices TBD).

Cooking Class: The Wonderful World of Crab

It’s time to get acquainted with crab! Join Niner Wine Estates and Chef Mike McGourty of The Cracked Crab for an in-depth exploration into the wonderful world of crab, and a few other seafood delicacies. Your hands-on education will begin with a lesson in oyster shucking and preparing. Then you will work alongside Chef Mike to clean and prepare several different species of crab. You will discover the diversity in flavors and textures from the different species and even gain a few restaurant secrets on how to prepare the various styles of crab. After the cooking is complete, you will enjoy the fruits of your labor in a family-style luncheon, complete with wine pairings.
